About Pam Stenhouse Counselling

About me

A completely 'genuine' approach

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          I’m Pam Stenhouse.  I’m a wife and mother of two grown up children and like most people, have had my fair share of life’s challenges.  I’d like to think that along with the academic studies, my life experience contributes to the counsellor I am today.

I've always worked in roles that required forming positive, trusting relationships with people of all ages.  Over time I've realised the power in making someone feel safe enough to be themselves in your presence, to trust that they will not be judged and to be understood.  This led me to commit to providing that environment in the role as a Person Centered Counsellor.

My employment journey:

  • Education - Pastoral Care -  working in education supporting children to manage emotions and break down any barriers to their learning;
  • Children’s Services: supporting families that have found themselves in situations such as financial deprivation, homelessness, living with addiction, victims of domestic violence, grief and loss and much more.
  • Adult Services: supporting clients of complex needs and autism, learning to really understand how a person feels and perceives their environment from the behaviours they displayed.
  • Bereavement Support:  Volunteering for a national charity, I continue to offer support to adults and children to understand and navigate their own personal experience of grief.

At Pam Stenhouse Counselling, I am committed to providing compassionate support tailored to individual needs. My person-centered approach allows clients to explore their feelings and experiences in a trusted environment

Anyone of any age can develop feelings of depression, anxiety, lack confidence, find themselves isolated or withdrawn.  Therefore I pride myself in being able to offer support to both children (age 7 - 17) and adults (age 18 and over).

Working to the BACP Ethical Framework

Formerly trained at Tyne Metropolitan College, North Tyneside, I have a Foundation Degree in Counselling.  This was part of a 4 year journey, which alongside educating me in theories and skills of Person Centered Counselling, took me on a personal exploration of my own self.  To allow a counsellor to support you it's important that they have invested in their own personal development.  I've attended personal counselling and dedicated to my own self care to ensure I can offer the best version of myself to my clients.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and work in line with the ethical framework.

I am supported by a BACP registered supervisor with whom I will take regular guidance and support whilst I support you.  This will be done anonymously to ensure I am offering you the best service possible or when necessary sign post you to more appropriate support for your needs.
